Life always finds a way. Or rather, Hollywood always finds a way to make fans happy (when they aren’t disappointing them, that is). Jurassic World 2 is about halfway through production, with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and BD Wong returning. Joining them are heavy weights James Cromwell, Toby Jones, and… Jeff Goldblum?!?! YES!
That’s right, after a two film absence, Jeff Goldblum is returning to the Jurassic Park franchise to bring Dr. Ian Malcolm back to life. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Goldblum has officially joined the sequel to Jurassic World. There is no word on what the size of his role may be, but this is welcome news indeed, as Ian Malcolm is perhaps the most beloved (I say so!) and certainly most quotable character from the Jurassic Park franchise.
This will be Goldblum’s third outing as Malcolm, following 1993’s original Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Though Jurassic World had a Dr. Malcolm Easter Egg in the form of his fictional novel, God Creates Dinosaurs, appearing in the control room, now the man is back for real!
I can’t imagine his role is that substantial, or we would have heard something before now. I wanted to see Malcolm appear in 2015’s Jurassic World, simply as a news guest saying, “I told you so!” following the disaster in the second park. Maybe something similar is planned for Jurassic World 2, as it will take a hell of a lot to get Ian Malcolm anywhere near a dinosaur again.
Are you excited for more Dr. Ian Malcolm? What do you think his role in the film may entail? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
Jurassic World 2 hits theaters on June 22, 2018.
