JJ Abrams Calls Overlord (Cloverfield 4) A ‘Crazy Movie’

While The Cloverfield Paradox was a pleasant surprise on Super Bowl Sunday, the consensus seems to be that the movie wasn’t all that great, and the more we think on it, the more it feels like Paramount was doing their best to make as much money from the film, quickly brush it aside and move one.

So if you were one of those folks who was underwhelmed by what The Cloverfield Paradox had to offer, fret not. They’ve hardly given us enough time to blink before moving onto the next entry in the franchise. Well, maybe. That depends on whether or not you think the film codenamed Overlord is actually an entry in the franchise.

Speaking with Digital Spy, producer J.J. Abrams wouldn’t get specific as to whether or not Overlord would connect to the franchise, but he did pay it a pretty good compliment.

Overlord … first of all it’s something that I can’t wait for you to see cause the director, Julius Avery, has done an amazing job on it. But the specifics, you know, we should wait and see. But that’s really a crazy movie.”

So far, we know that Overlord is something of a World War II movie, but as we’ve reported on in the past, all signs point to this being the fourth Cloverfield movie. Like the others, it’s an original script that’s been retrofitted to exist within this strange little universe.

I hope that if Overlord is Cloverfield 4 that it ups the ante from The Cloverfield Paradox.
