We’ve heard for some time that Universal Pictures is planning its own cinematic universe, based on its classic stable of monsters- like Dracula, The Wolfman, Frankenstein, etc. We know they’ve been working tirelessly, assembling a team of writers that are going to treat the upcoming slate of films almost like how writers working on a TV series do: Working together to craft the individual stories as well as the overall arch being told.

Now comes word on who might lead one of these ambitious new films, and it’s someone who has plenty of experience with shared universes: Scarlett Johansson.

According to Tracking-Board, Universal wants to get Johansson to star in The Creature From The Black Lagoon, presumably filling the iconic role of Kay Lawrence- which was played by Julia Adams in the 1954 original. The role was an important one for the horror genre, and the film itself was very influential for many of the “creature features” to follow.

The report only indicates that she is their top choice and that they’re currently courting the star, but there’s no indication as of now that she is actually considering it.
