John Wick 3 Easily Passes First Two Movies At The Box Office

While there are some franchises out there that only seem to either match the success of their predecessors or fall short of them, there are some that seem to only gain more and more audience members with each entry. These particular brand of franchise are more of a rarity these days, but one such franchise is John Wick, which stars the incomparable Keanu Reeves as the titular former assassin caught in a web of assassins.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum opened to a franchise-best number of $56.8 million the weekend before last, and its positive momentum has easily carried it past the other two films’ worldwide cume. The first movie in the franchise ended its run with $88.8 million, and the second managed to nearly double that with $171.5 million.

The total we are currently sitting at for the third film is $182.0 million worldwide, and that’s only after spending two weekends in theaters. We already know a fourth film is in the works from Lionsgate and director Chad Stahelski, but the big question here is whether or not audiences really want a fourth film?

While there is always the danger of diminishing returns, they do have two things working in their favor: Their overall quality thus far, and their relatively meager budgets. So long as they keep this up, who knows how many we’ll be seeing in the years to come.
