John Wick 3 Locks Down Director, Shooting Date, Characters Revealed

Starting off as the little film that could, John Wick has quickly turned into a big, solid action franchise that is set to span three films and a TV show. So far, we’ve seen two solid flicks hit the big screen, and a third one is on the way. Our friends over at ThatHashtagShow have the scoop for John Wick: Chapter 3, including director and expected production start.

Coming back to the helm for the third time is Chad Stahelski. While he was the only credited director on the first John Wick, it was widely known that he co-directed the film with David Leitch, who is currently working on The Untitled Deadpool Sequel. Stahelski successfully tackled John Wick: Chapter 2, and if this report is to be believed (and given the outlet’s track record, they are), it sounds like he’ll be back for a third outing.

The outlet continues, stating that it will begin principal photography on March 1, less than a month and a half away! Most of the film will be shot in New York City, “with additional filming potentially taking place in Spain and Russia.” Honestly, we’re not too sure what to make of that last part, and it’s not clear if “additional filming potentially” means that they’ll be shooting this stuff no matter what, and it’ll just be nice if it’s in Spain and Russia.

Actors Common, Laurence Fishburne, and Ruby Rose will be back in their respective roles, but one big addition will be Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, 47 Ronin) as the head of a Japanese crime syndicate. Finally, the film is in search of a female lead, with them being open to actresses from their late 20s to early 40s of no particular race. The outlet also stated that while star Keanu Reeves wants to bring Tilda Swinton into the franchise, it may be for a different role.

So what do you think about all this? Are you excited that John Wick: Chapter 3 is already underway? Let us know down below!

John Wick: Chapter 3 hits theaters on May 17, 2019.
