Everyone get ready because I sense a DC resurgence in the near future. Yeah, I know. That’s hyperbole in its most blatant form, isn’t it? That may be so, but it’s hard not to feel just the slightest bit of love after all we’ve seen of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker so far. Between his over-the-top mannerisms, his eerily grounded makeup, and the production design we’ve seen, this looks to be one of the more exciting DC pieces to hit in recent memory.

Of course, this is a double-edged sword. Sure, I’m excited now, but with the movie still nearly one year away from its release, we can’t help but worry they’re shooting their load just a bit too early. We now no longer have the reveal of the character to look forward to, and if they knew what was good for them, they’d probably stop showing off images, right? No chance in hell, apparently! Director Todd Phillips recently took to Instagram to show off yet another image of the Joker.

The image shows a lounging Joaquin Phoenix with his feet up on a pile of magazines on a desk, his head hung back, and a cigarette sticking out of his mouth. It perfectly embodies everything I want to see in this Joker, including the gap between the makeup and his hairline. But fret not, it’s not a shot from the film itself.

As Phillips noted in the caption, this is a shot taken while they were on break, so don’t think this’ll ruin anything from the film — unless they modeled this shot after something we’d see in the movie.
