The past few weeks have been pleasant ones for Warner Bros. and their DC films. In addition to their stellar Hall H presentation, we’ve had plenty of news for the likes of Birds of Prey as well as the standalone Joker film, starring Joaquin Phoenix. Not long ago, it was rumored that Marc Maron and Robert De Niro would be joining the crime-centric comic book film, but in a recent episode of WTF Podcast, Maron himself confirmed these rumors, saying:

“It is true people. It is true ladies and gentlemen, I have been added to the cast of the new Joker movie being directed by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro. Two of the greatest actors that have ever graced the screen.”

From there, the GLOW star went on to address his previous criticisms of superhero films before circling back to the idea of potentially starring alongside De Niro and Phoenix in a few scenes. He then went on to praise the script, saying:

“This is the movie that it’s going to be in, and hopefully it will make the cut, and honestly, it’s a pretty great script. So there you have it.”

It honestly baffles me how much momentum this project has gotten. In a world where Justice League got such the negative reception it got, you would think Warner Bros. would pump the breaks, but it only seemed to push them to double down on exploiting these I.P.s for all they’re worth, for better or worse.
