Joker To Shoot Next Month, Possibly Shoot For R Rating

Forget Aquaman, forget Shazam!, forget Wonder Woman. Perhaps the most interesting DC project that’s gaining momentum right now is the standalone Joker film, which features Joaquin Phoenix in the title role of the Clown Prince of Crime. This film will take place outside of the existing DC Extended Universe of movies, and as we’ve reported in the past, they’re going more for a hard-boiled crime film, not unlike the Martin Scorsese films of the ’80s.

With that in mind, it would make sense if they were heading for an R rating…but are they? According to The GWW, they are “possibly” shooting for an R rating. Specifically, they point to potential nudity, which will involve “smaller female roles.” They go on to specify that it the nudity could come in the form of strippers, as this take on Joker could be a former comedian who performed in strip clubs. We’ll see if the studio allows them to follow through with this, when all said and done.

The outlet also stated that production will begin on September 22, and will wrap around February of next year. This puts it on course to easily make its October 4, 2019 release date.

Joker is directed by The Hangover helmer Todd Phillips and joining Phoenix in the film are Frances Conroy, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Marc Maron.
