Whenever you have a spin-off of the Batman universe, be it a prequel like Gotham or follow-up like Batman Beyond, one can’t help but wonder just how many ties it will have to the mythology we all know and love. The same can be said of the upcoming Joker film — a film that we already know has one solid tie to the Batman mythology in the form of Thomas Wayne (at least apart from it being a Joker-centric tale, of course). But is it possible that it has even more in common than we’d expect?

A new video has surfaced online of what looks to be an old-school Batmobile — and by old-school, I mean 1960s Batman status. In the title and description, it’s claimed that this is the car being used to film the Joker film in Newark, New Jersey. Before we go any further, it’s worth confirming that, yes, that aspect of the story checks out. The Joker film was indeed filming in New Jersey this past weekend, and as far as we know, will be filming later today.

But what about the Batmobile? Well, considering Thomas Wayne is alive in this story, it seems like a stretch to believe that this is even remotely true. Additionally, one of the commenters claims that he was told by a security guard that the car is a fan’s car and will NOT be utilized in the film. Not sure why the fan brought it to set or if that’s even true, but it certainly seems more plausible than it being utilized in the film.

That being said, I’d be lying if I didn’t consider this being true even for the briefest of moments. Given how much Phoenix’s Joker looks like a throwback to the Cesar Romero Joker, it doesn’t feel out of the question that a Batmobile like this could be used should a Batman exist in this movie. But unless they really plan on ruining continuity by having Batman exist simultaneously with Thomas Wayne, it seems unlikely (though I guess it’s possible that they could feature Thomas Wayne flashbacks…).
