Josh Trank Wishes Taika Waititi Good Luck On Akira Film In Oddly Salty Tweet

A few years back, Josh Trank took a big hit when Fantastic Four hit theaters. Not only was the movie a victim of some very clear studio meddling, but the man himself wasn’t doing any favors with some of the stuff he was saying online. From what we understand now, the process with the studio really broke him, so much so that as soon as production on the movie started, he was already beaten to the ground.

But, of course, prior to that fiasco, Trank had wowed audiences with his unexpected superhero found footage movie Chronicle. Not only was a unique take on the burgeoning genre, but it also contained shades of the anime and manga story, Akira, with a character essentially becoming mad with power, forcing an older brother-type character to intervene. Now, director Taika Waititi is set to do an official adaptation of the manga source material, and Josh Trank saw it fit to share an oddly salty tweet full of well wishes:

“My Akira adaptation had Michael B Jordan in it and cost 15 million dollars.

And then I died 3 years later.

Good luck @TaikaWaititi”

In case it wasn’t clear enough, three years later, Fantastic Four hit theaters.

While I’m sure the well wishes to Waititi were genuine, it’s hard not to feel bad for the guy considering what ultimately happened with his career. Even in the tweets that follow, there seems to be a resignation from him. What makes it worse is that it’s very clear is he put all he had into these movies, and whatever happened still ended up happening.

On the bright side, Trank has an upcoming biopic called Fonzo starring Tom Hardy, and with a few more of those and elbow grease, maybe this can be a comeback of M. Night proportions.
