Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Becomes Dwayne Johnson’s Highest Grossing Domestic Film

The Rock has come a long way since his first feature film role as the villainous (and horrendously CGI) Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns.

Now known as Dwayne Johnson, the actor is one of the most bankable in Hollywood, not only providing his own hits like San Andreas and Central Intelligence, but also giving new blood and bigger box office dollars by taking over franchises like Fast and the Furious and G.I. Joe. He has a lot more hits coming, with Rampage, Skyscraper, Jungle Cruise, and a sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle which may open opposite Star Wars: Episode IX. Oh… and maybe, just maybe, he will actually someday play Black Adam for DC.

Which brings us to our subject, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Not only did the sequel/”soft” reboot take back the #1 spot at the box office from Maze Runner: The Death Cure this weekend; it is shaping up to be Johnson’s best performing film in the United States.

Jumanji is expected to pass his other highest grossing domestic film, Furious 7, today.

Jumanji made $11 million over a slow Super Bowl weekend hitting $352.7 million, only $300,000 short of Furious 7, the highest grossing film in the Fast and the Furious franchise, due to the added appeal of seeing Paul Walker’s last film.

I guess we know now why Universal is making a Johnson/Jason Statham spinoff! And ain’t because of Jason! (Sorry, mate.)

Were you as pleasantly surprised as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle as I was? Or is it not deserving of such high grosses? Let us know in the comment section below!
