This past week hasn’t really been the best for the DC Extended Universe. It kicked off with WB golden boy, Ben Affleck, officially withdrawing as director of the hotly-anticipated Batman standalone film. As one would expect, this has seemed to shake many fans’ faith in the franchise going forward. Can a series of films where directors hop in and out of projects every few weeks really hold up under the constant scrutiny of fans? That remains to be seen, but while, to some, the franchise may be in shambles, we can’t forget that we have two very real movies on the horizon that can change that narrative at the drop of a hat.
The first, of course, is Wonder Woman, which will mark the first female superhero film in the modern era of superhero movies. The second is Justice League, which will bring together the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and of course, Superman. Ever since Batman v Superman hit theaters last March, Warner Bros has been doing the best they can to push a very specific narrative about Justice League — that it would be a more lighthearted endeavor for audiences. Based on what we’ve seen of the film so far from the San Diego Comic-Con footage, that indeed seems to be the case.
Now, a new image has popped up on the net, and it certainly seems to drive home that idea. The photo reportedly comes from GamesRadar, and it supposedly dropped a good month or so ago. However, the image wasn’t actually a part of the article itself, and only showed up as a thumbnail image on social media. That’s an interesting way for a photo to leak, but here it is nonetheless!
As you can see, the photo shows Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg getting ready to kick some bad guy ass. Wonder Woman looks largely the same as she did in Batman v Superman (not that we expected any big differences), but Aquaman is fully decked out with his trident and Atlantean armor, and in true Snyder form, he manages to make it work in a very non-silly way. Standing alongside the two is Cyborg, who is still as glowy and shiny as ever, but the big thing of note with him is his left arm, which has what looks to be his sonic cannon.
Snyder has never really been one to disappoint on the visuals front, so we’re not surprised this looks every bit as cool as we’d hoped. Let’s just hope the script manages to make it work.
Below is the official synopsis for Justice League:
“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.â€
