Kevin Conroy’s ‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ Crossover Batman Teased

This year’s Arrowverse crossover looks to be one for the books. Yes, every year they try to one-up themselves, but this is one year that’s going to be truly difficult to top. Not only are we getting three different iterations of Superman, but we’re also going to be getting Batman for the first time in a CW series.

Portraying the Caped Crusader will be none other than longtime Batman veteran, Kevin Conroy, who first took up the cowl as the voice of Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Animated Series, a role that helped shaped the character for an entire generation of fans and beyond. And speaking of beyond…can we expect his Bruce Wayne to resemble that found in Batman Beyond — an older, more mentor-y Batman?

“In this, I explore a lot of [the] dark corners of Bruce Wayne,” Conroy told EW. “But they’re different than the ones I explored on Batman Beyond.”

Conroy’s Batman will appear in the Batwoman episode in the five-hour saga, and in it, he will given a Kingdom Come-inspired Batman suit, which is more of a metal exoskeleton than a standard suit. So if you were hoping for a standard old Bruce…sorry. Regardless, it sounds like this is something to look forward to.

“He is stupendous,” crossover executive producer Marc Guggenheim said. “He is Bruce Wayne. [It’s] just a lot of fun to see this actor who we all mainly know from voice work being on camera. It was really exciting.”

For his part, Conroy wasn’t quite sure how to take on the character in live-action form.

“It threw me at first,” Conroy said. “I never approached this character from that physicalized aspect. I always just inhabited him with my voice. When you do that in a recording studio, it’s a very intimate experience and you’re sort of living in your own imagination. You do it with your eyes clothes and you’re in this other world, and you have Mark Hamill feeding you all the energy you [need], and the other actors (because we always recorded together in the booths). To actually be on the set, in the physical world, and to be walking as the character and inhabiting the character in three dimensions, it was a real transition for me. It did take a while to get used to, I have to admit. I was surprised because I know the character so well.”

As you can see below in the first official image of Conroy (ignoring the Routh picture), they really are going the Kingdom Come route, and it’s actually pretty cool. This is a take we’ve never seen in live-action form, so I’m sure hardcore comic fans will eat it up.
