Kevin Feige Reportedly “Lent A Hand” To Sony On Venom

Yesterday was a crazy day for movie news, the two biggest stories hit back to back. A new Matrix movie is on the way with Keanu Reeves and Lana Wachowski, I’ve seen reports this will be the fourth film in the franchise? By my count, it’s on the second.  And perhaps the only news that could top a new installment in The Matrix franchise, we learned that Sony and Disney/Marvel will not renew their Spider-Man deal, an agreement that seems to have been mutually beneficial for both studios and completely awesome for us fans.

Just as the Sony/Marvel news dropped I had to head off to my other job, so I’m not totally clear on what’s going on, and with all the UPDATES articles I see around the Internet, it seems I’m not the only one. One other tidbit of info came out of this announcement, it appears that Kevin Feige unofficially helped Sony with Venom.

While it apparently happened very early in the process, Deadline says that Feige, “Lent an unofficial hand” to the film. While I know I’m in the minority here, I didn’t hate the film and thought it was fun, this is in part due to my love of Tom Hardy, as well as me not having an association with the comic book version of the character, though I completely understand folks who do, as I am not a fan of making too many, if any changes at all to a character.

I think it’s pretty obvious that Marvel is simply better at developing and adapting characters, I don’t think there’s been a more beloved Spider-Man than Tom Holland’s, Sony should take this into account, but as I said I am not clear on what caused the deal not to be renewed.

I, as I imagine most every other nerd on the planet hopes that somehow, someway, Sony and Marvel will work something out and Spider-Man can keep appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as solo outings. Perhaps Marvel could offer help on adapting some of the 900 or so characters Sony has the rights to.
