Kevin Feige Talks About What’s Next Including An Eternals Update

What comes next for the MCU after Spider-Man: Far From Home? In less than 2 weeks we will get Captain Marvel, the first of the three MCU movies hitting theaters in 2019. Followed by Avengers: Endgame and finally the aforementioned Spider-Man: Far From Home, we really don’t know what the next movie will be to arrive in 2020.

One contender is Eternals, other than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, Eternals is the only other upcoming movie we know officially is happening at some point. We do know that Feige has said Doctor Strange 2 will definitely happen, and we have heard about a Black Widow movie as well. Collider caught up with Marvel Head Kevin Feige on the recent Captain Marvel Press Tour and the producer talked a little about where the MCU was going next and gave a little more information about Eternals. Check it out

“Everything after Endgame, and after Spider-Man: Far From Home, will be different and be unique, as we try to make every film. But seeing returning characters is certainly something we’re gonna do and want to do. But also introducing characters that the majority of the world has never heard of, much like Guardians, much like Avengers before we made Avengers. And there are lots of them. Eternals are one group, but we like the idea of introducing an ensemble, doing an ensemble movie from the start, as opposed to building up as we did with the first Avengers. More like Guardians, not tonally, but in terms of introducing a new group of people. You were asking about ’60s, and ’70s before. Jack Kirby did an immense, amazing epic with Eternals that spans tens of thousands of years, and that’s also something we haven’t really done, which is why that among many other things post-Endgame, we find appealing.”

So it looks like things might get shook up a little as Marvel move beyond their first 10 years. Whilst we have nothing specific, Eternals alone is a pretty out there concept and if you had asked me a year ago whether I wanted to see Eternals as the first proper Phase 4 movie, I’d have asked you “Who?”

But the more I read about a group of characters I had zero knowledge of, the more I just wanna see where the hell Marvel is going with this. I felt the same about Guardians of the Galaxy, despite knowing a little more of those characters and yet the movie turned out to be my favorite MCU movie to that point. Roll on Phase 4 and 2020 for me.
