Kevin Feige Talks The Possibility Of A Venom And Spider-Man Crossover – An Alternate Take

As a Spidey fan, one of the things that irks me about the current deal between Sony and Marvel is that Sony has pushed ahead with their own VenomVerse. We already have Venom and we know that Morbius is currently filming now, but as a fan, all I see is the fact that neither of these characters can really appear in the MCU now.

Of course, Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man and at the end of the day, they can do as they like, they could even decide to ‘take back’ the MCU version of Spidey for their own cinematic universe if they wished, though I hope they don’t. However yesterday a report started making the rounds that Feige had said that a Venom and Spider-Man crossover was “likely”. Well, having read that initial report from CinemaBlend and the quote from Kevin Feige himself, I sorta disagree with the interpretation of this statement. Here is that Feige quote.

“I think probably it’s up to Sony. Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that. But it seems likely at some point.”

Now let’s break this statement down a little. First of all, Feige is giving Sony it’s due when reiterating that any decisions made for either Venom or Spider-Man are firmly in the hands of Sony who own the rights to both characters. He then goes on to talk about whether Sony is making a sequel to Venom, and points out that although he doesn’t know for sure, that it seems likely. That’s my take as opposed to the take that he is saying a Venom/Spidey crossover is likely at some point, which everyone else seems to be running with.

I guess it’s a more exciting story, but really you cannot (without being Feige himself) make a conclusive analysis of how he meant that statement to be taken, and that includes the source who interviewed Feige directly. If you just look at the latter half of this statement in a vacuum, you wouldn’t even consider he meant anything else other than what I’ve described

“I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that. But it seems likely at some point.”

See what I mean? Now, I’ll admit that it could well be me that’s taking this out of context, but the way Feige words that statement to me should absolutely not be taken as confirmation that Feige thinks a Venom/Spidey crossover is likely. I’d say it leans towards my interpretation more, but admittedly he could have been saying that he thinks it is likely. Either way, until we hear some sort of confirming statement from someone at Marvel or Sony, I wouldn’t take it to the bank that Sony will put Venom and Spider-Man together. It’s something I’d love to see…If it was developed within the MCU, not in Sony’s VenomVerse.

What do you think, is Feige saying that Venom V Spidey is likely or that Venom 2 seems likely? Give us your thoughts and reason for those thoughts in the usual spot below.
