Kingpin Return? Vincent D’Onofrio Doesn’t Know Anything

Kingpin return?

Kingpin actor, Vincent D’Onofrio, responded to a Twitter user over the weekend.  The tweet in question was in regard to his Daredevil character. It’s evident D’Onofrio has no idea if Fisk, a.k.a Kingpin, would show back up. Also, he doesn’t seem to have an inside track to know what is happening with the character. D’Onofrio squashes any indication he has foreknowledge of a Kingpin return or if the character shows up in the MCU.

D’Onofrio appears to be in the same camp as other stars from Daredevil in regards to knowing about the future of their characters.  It is a disappointment we may not get more chances to see D’Onofrio as Fisk. When Daredevil was first mentioned for Netflix, who knew what we would get. Surely it would be better than the abysmal 2003 movie.  As time went on, we began to get word of who would star in the show. It wasn’t until D’Onofrio was mentioned as the Marvel Daredevil character, Kingpin, that I started paying attention to what was happening with the show.

D’Onofrio, for me, is an actor who imbues every role in a way to make you forget the person who is behind the character. As Kingpin, in Daredevil, this was no exception. His portrayal of Kingpin didn’t turn the character into a one note villain. If anything, D’Onofrio brought understanding and even sympathy to the famous Marvel crime lord which made me wonder if I should even feel this way toward the character.

What should be Marvel’s way forward with Kingpin or D’Onofrio?

If there is one knock against Marvel it has been the lack of great villains.  Then D’Onofrio came along and added Kingpin to the short list of Marvel’s best on screen villains.  If they do recast someone other than D’Onofrio as Kingpin, hopefully they find an actor who is equally captivating on screen.  Also, if D’Onofrio isn’t brought back as the character, then Marvel needs to look into finding a new role for him.  Marvel has an ever expanding universe with room for another great D’Onofrio character.
