Kylo Ren Originally Had A Much Different Lightsaber

Remember back in 2015 when we all watched the first trailer for The Force Awakens? We then saw the character we would all come to know as Kylo Ren limping through the snow when he stops and ignites his lightsaber. Upon initial viewing I thought the lightsaber was bad-ass, this is of course before any examination about the practicality of the weapon. The ligthsaber still looks cool with its medieval appearance and I do like how it represents Kylo, in that they’re both highly unstable.

Kylo’s weapon was originally much different. Michael Ardnt, who wrote the first version of The Force Awakens before leaving the project, had Kylo Ren wielding a double-bladed lightsaber. That’s nothing new right? Well, this one would have had a blue blade and a red blade. This was done away with when J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over the wriing duties after Arndt’s exit.

The blue and red lightsaber would have better represented Kylo, even moreso than the unstable crossguard weapon he ultimately ended up with. I hope this is an idea Disney keeps around and uses in the future.

Would you have rather seen Kylo Ren wield a double-bladed lightsaber, or do you like the crossguard better? Let us know in the comments down below!
