Lady And The Tramp To Use Real Dogs, Have Period Setting

These days, it’s hard to tell what is considered a live-action film. No longer is it cut-and-dry. You can get a film that is 95% animated, and yet, if it features a live-action character, it’s considered live-action. Hell, if we have a film that’s 100% animated and it just happens to look somewhat realistic, it’s still called a live-action movie.

Such a debate has erupted with film geeks around the world in regards to the next big Disney “live-action” adaptation The Lion King, which features no humans. Luckily, it doesn’t look like such a debate will erupt around another of their adaptations, Lady and the Tramp.

Speaking with Collider, actor Thomas Mann confirmed they will be using real dogs from this movie, and that it would even be a period piece:

“I get to be little more broad because of its period. That was actually something that was very, very different for me, whereas Maine is a character that’s the closest to myself that I’ve ever played.

And also, there are real dogs. Who doesn’t want to see two real dogs kiss over a plate of spaghetti? That is the main draw for me. You get the charisma of real dogs in there. Lady and the Tramp came out in 1955. I understand people who are like, “Don’t mess with the original,” but they aren’t re-animating it. It’s a live-action remake. So, why not?”

Does this guarantee it’ll be a better movie? Of course not. At the end of the day, the medium utilized is a creative choice, and it all depends on how the film is executed that matters, right? At the very least, this will give this film an extra dose of grounding that the likes of Dumbo and The Lion King won’t. What do you think of this reveal? Let us know your thoughts down below!
