Lara Croft Will Not Be Using Her Trademark Guns In The New Tomb Raider

The traditional Lara Croft was known for two things, duel-wielding two-large caliber handguns and… unrealistically enormous breasts.

Thankfully, we now all live in 2018, where things are more politically correct, in both departments.

Cinemablend had an interview with Tom Raider producer Graham King, and he explained Croft wouldn’t be using any guns in order to keep things grounded and realistic:

“Don’t give her a gun, don’t give her a semi-automatic weapon. Let’s give her a bow and arrow. Let’s give her all the hurdles possible. But again, have her make it believable.”

To be fair, this is very much in line with the 2013 reboot of the video game franchise, on which the film is obviously modeled. Instead of being a trained killer or soldier, Croft is a survivalist heroine, using a bow and arrow for the marketing, at least. (I lost interest before I made it far in that game, but maybe guns come up?)

Personal political view aside, I personally have no problem with guns on the big screen. In fact, most my favorite franchises sport gun wielding heroes like Indiana Jones, Riggs and Murtaugh, John McClane, Ethan Hunt, and James Bond, but it may be refreshing watching a heroine have to overcome obstacles with a bow and arrow… though there are far too many archers today in films… I guess it’s a trend?

Are you disappointed Lara Croft won’t be brandishing  large guns in the new Tomb Raider reboot? Or does it really matter?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
