We live in a world where crossovers between cool movie characters are no longer a pipe dream. Batman has fought Superman, Cap has fought Iron Man, and Godzilla is set to take on King Kong in the near future. So what’s next for the world of movie crossovers? What other titanic figures can clash in a ridiculously expensive over-the-top battle? Well, we can’t forget a little film called Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, can we?

No joke! That movie looks absolutely amazing, doesn’t it? But imagine seeing the Ryan Reynolds-voiced Pikachu take on the likes of Godzilla? Legendary, one of the studios behind Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Kong: Skull Island, and Detective Pikachu replied to a tweet from the former film’s director Michael Dougherty, encouraging fans to add Godzilla to any movie to instantly make it better.

Okay, so it wasn’t really a crossover, but more of a “vs.” at the box office. That being said, there really is no danger between the two actually going head to head, as Pokémon: Detective Pikachu hits on May 3 and Godzilla hits on May 31 — plenty of time for both to do well at the box office. Additionally, we can’t forget that they seem to be targeting very different audiences. Counter-programming for the win!
