Over the past several years, Disney has become a box office juggernaut with their blockbuster movies. From their animation, their Marvel films, their Star Wars films, and their live-action work, there seems to be no stopping this behemoth of a studio from slowly taking over the world. Now, according to Deadline, it looks like they may be adapting yet another one of their animated classics for live-action.

The outlet states that Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang has been tapped to write the film Hunchback, a live-action adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel of the same name. As expected, they’ll be adapting the original 1996 animated film from Disney. That being said, Disney vet Alan Menken will be joining Stephen Schwartz will be writing music for the film, the latter man having worked on the original animated film. While Schartz and Menken have collaborated on the stage production, this film will not be pulling from it.

Josh Gad, one of the stars of the live-action Beauty and the Beast, is producing the film, and while there has been talk of him playing the role of Quasimodo, there has been no solid casting decisions yet. How does this new take on the animated film sit with you?
