As a military veteran who is edging-up in years myself, Logan resonated with me at a deep, deep level (judging by the film’s box office performance, I’m not alone). Seeing an aging Jackman with shaking hands, lined face, and graying beard is heartbreaking; for laughs, watch the trailer for the original Bryan Singer X-Men from 2000 — the intervening years have not been particularly kind to Jackman.
Interestingly, the Logan Noir trailer contains little action, instead it just lingers over the many themes explored in film, including: resistance to changing times, denial of one’s limitations, and reflections upon a life not lived. Logan is ultimately a redemption story, which is incredibly well-served by the black-and-white photography. If you haven’t seen Logan yet, this sure looks like an epic way to experience the final go-around with Jackman’s career-defining anti-hero.
