After a long run of collaborating, Will Ferell and director Adam McKay will go their separate ways, at least professionally. According to Deadline the longtime duo will remain friends, and this move doesn’t stem from a falling out between the two. Ferrell and McKay will complete mutual projects they were already working on together, but will soon set out on their own.

Helming some of Ferrell’s most well popular films including Anchorman and Step Brothers, McKay has over the last few years shifted from the comedy he is known for to more serious films such as The Big Short and most recently, Vice. You can check out a statement from the two below.

“The last 13 years could not have been more enjoyable and satisfying for the two of us at Sanchez Productions. We give massive thanks to our incredible staff and executives and all the writers, directors and actors we worked with through the years. The two of us will always work together creatively and always be friends. And we recognize we are lucky as hell to end this venture as such.”

Ferrell and McKay’s relationship (which began on Saturday Night Live, as the two were hired on the same day) could be compared to that of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton who are perhaps the most well-known and most frequently collaborating actor/director teams. Though the types of films put out by the two teams are night and day, with Ferrell and McKay bringing their own brand of comedy and Burton and Depp delivering films with an equally original, but far more creepy feel to them.
