LRM EXCLUSIVE: Men In Black Producer Walter F. Parke On Why Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson Are Perfect For Each Other

One of the things that worked so well in the original Men in Black films was the odd pairing of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Will Smith’s character was at the top of his game as a detective, he just didn’t know he was playing in the minor leagues. In comes Tommy Lee Jones’ character, a seasoned veteran of the world he will soon introduce Smith’s character to.

The same basic idea was used when putting together the latest entry into the franchise, Men in Black: International with the casting of Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. LRM had the chance to sit down with Men in Black producer Walter F. Parkes, and was asked by our own Gig Patta…why Hemsworth and Thompson? You can check out what he had to say below.

“Why Tessa and Chris? Chris was the first person we cast. There are very, very few actors who bring to bear his qualities. To be that physically adept. To be that subtle of a comic actor. It’s just really you look on the list, there was a reason he was the first person that we went to. At that point, you try to find someone with whom he’ll have the kind of comic friction that you seem to enjoy between Will and Tommy.”

I’ve always been a fan of the franchise, the quality has varied but they’ve always been fun films in my opinion. I enjoy both Hemsworth and Thompson, and loved their interactions in Thor: Ragnarok and I’m guessing I will enjoy the two of them in this film as well.
