A couple of years ago, geeks around the world lost one of the big titans of the industry. After being in intensive care for four days, Carrie Fisher passed away at the UCLA Medical Center. It was a day none of us will ever forget, and not long after her passing, many began to wonder what Disney and Lucasfilm would do given her planned involvement with Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: Episode IX.
For The Last Jedi, she had shot everything they needed to make the film work, but Episode IX was a different story. However, the studio made it clear that they would not be using CG to bring her to life, as they did in Rogue One. Instead, but they decided to do was reuse footage from the past couple movies and repurpose it for the scenes in Episode IX. This was done after the studio got the blessing from Fisher’s family…but what would Fisher herself think?

While we may never know what she would actually say, costar Mark Hamill things she would have enjoyed the idea, as he revealed to Den of Geek:
“I’m glad they found a way to do that, and something tells me that she’d get a real kick out of the fact that she had a hit movie years after she left us, because that was just her. I like to think that would please her, but nothing would be better than having her here.”
Given how dry and irreverent Fisher was, you can certainly see Hamill’s point. I could see her almost laughing at the idea of her performance being used in service of continuing the story even after her passing. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts down below!
