Marlon Wayans Would Love To Play A Live Action Plastic Man

Last December it was revealed that Warner Bros. and DC were working on developing a Plastic Man film. At the time Amanda Idoko had been brought in to write a comedic action-adventure story for the stretchy character. Since then we really haven’t heard much about any further development. But in case they do decide sometime in the future to move ahead with the project, there is one actor who is ready to take on the role of Patrick “Eel” O’Brian.

In a conversation with Screen Rant, comedic actor Marlon Wayans revealed that he would love to take on the role of Plastic Man. By the looks of his comment, which you can check out below, Wayanes really seems to understand the character and even gives his thoughts on an African-American tackling the role. The question came about while having a conversation about his supposed role as Robin in the 90’s Batman, which lead to the question of what superhero role he would be up for.

“I would love to play Plastic Man. I think he works with the comedic skill set that I have, in terms of how I’m physical, I’m bendy. And I think it’d be cool to just do it without… You know, what’s great about Black Panther is he’s a black superhero, right? But sometimes [it’s fun] to just do something. Like, you wouldn’t think Plastic Man was a black guy, but it’s not black – it’s just, he’s plastic. I think it’d be fun for me, because I know I got to add my humor to it. The only two superheroes I ever really wanted to play was Plastic Man and The Mask. Those are the two superhero films I would love to play.”

O’Brian, aka Plastic Man, was originally part of Quality Comics way back in 1941, where he first appeared in Police Comics #1. Later joined DC Comics in 1956 and has recently been making a comeback in comics. Recently he had a hilarious limited series written by Gail Simone and was a part of the Dark Nights: Metal event and is currently part of The Terrifics, which is a fantastic book that I highly recommend.

I actually never thought of Wayans as a contender to play Plastic Man, but thinking back on all of the comedies that he has been in the past, I think he might actually be a great choice. Especially if he has an understanding of the type of humor Plastic Man brings to DC. Would you like to see Wayans take on the role of Plastic Man? If not then who else? Let us know in the comment section below!

Wayans can be seen next in his upcoming Netflix film, Sextuplets which hits their streaming service August 16th.
