Marvel Games Vice President Says Feedback From Fans On Marvel’s Avengers Game Is Being Received

When Square Enix unveiled their new Marvel’s Avengers game at E3, fans were hyped to see what they had been working on for all these years. However, the general reaction from fans to what was shown was less than enthusiastic.

As a game I was personally hyped for along with most of my friends, our biggest criticism of the presentation was that we didn’t really get to see any proper gameplay footage. But, the majority of the criticisms from fans was aimed more at the character design, which admittedly looks a bit ‘funky’. I think the design is in some ways too similar to the MCU design and yet far enough apart that it rankled MCU fans and comic book fans alike.

It’s not only just the design of the costumes either, the character models already look very dated for a game that won’t be released until May 2020, when compared to other games of this generation. Fans have pointed to Black Widow specifically as looking like a generic male character with a red wig on a female body. I guess many fans wanted to see the MCU version of these characters, but then when you consider things like image rights for those megastars, it would surely exponentially increase the costs associated with making this game. So should they have gone with a more animated comic book look for this game?

Now Marvel Games Vic President and Creative Director Bill Roseman has said in an interview with GameSpot that they are listening to fan feedback and that they still have time to make changes before the game is released.

“We want to thank you for last night, for watching the trailer. Your energy was awesome! All the comments we’re hearing, we’re listening to them, we’re sharing them, we’re bringing them back to the studio, we’re listening to you.”

Given that the game doesn’t release until May next year, they really do have the time to work a little on some of these character models. But what exact changes could be made that would appeal to all the fans, that I am unsure of? For a start, I think making Black Widow look like a female instead of a male head on a female body would be welcomed, and another major criticism has been the design of Captain America’s outfit. For me personally, I am more interested in seeing how the gameplay loop will work in this game than I am with character design, but it wouldn’t hurt to use the time they have to make some improvements to the design of the game as well.

What do you think of the character designs for Marvel’s Avengers game, should they be changed before release to appease fan criticism? Sound off about anything related to the Marvel’s Avengers game in the usual spot below.
