Marvel Promises Deadpool’s Future Won’t Be PG-13, Still Figuring Out Things

Well, from the sound of it, you can at least put one fear to rest. Ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, we knew there was a possibility of Deadpool joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper — rather than the X-Men Universe (the likes of which has pretty much fizzled out at this point).

One big concern many fans had was that we’d end up with a PG-13 Deadpool. Given the family-friendly nature of the Marvel Studios brand, you could understand a concern they’d have, but as fans, we really don’t want the integrity of the character to be lost. So, what’s the deal? Speaking with EW, Deadpool co-writer Paul Wernick said:

“We’ve got several projects with him in addition to the Deadpool universe. I think the party line and truth is we’re all still figuring it out. Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox. Our feeling and Ryan’s feeling is that it’s got to be the right idea, it’s got to be great… I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races. Ryan’s super-busy, we’ve got a lot of projects lined up, but we wake up thinking about Deadpool, and we go to sleep thinking about Deadpool.”

So the big takeaway here for me is that Marvel has promised to let them to play in the “R-rated” Deadpool universe. This tells me three things: 1) that Rhett Reese and Wernick and Ryan Reynolds are currently involved, 2) that they plan it being R-rated, and 3) they’re hoping to take advantage of the MCU.

All of this sounds good…but what do you think? Let us know down below!
