Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Now Chief Creative Officer At Marvel, Unifying Marvel Once Again

Those who were hoping to see Kevin Feige head over to the Star Wars universe and perform his storytelling magic following Kathleen Kennedy’s run as president will have to pour one out for him, as it doesn’t look like he’ll be heading over there any time soon. Instead, it looks like he will be deepening his roots within the world of Marvel, expanding his reach to far beyond his current one.

According to Deadline, Feige — who is currently president of Marvel Studios, who handles the production of feature films and Disney+ live-action Marvel shows — has added the title of Marvel Chief Creative Officer, which will see him creatively in charge of all Marvel…stuffs.

The outlet broke down how the reporting structure would, and for fear of screwing up and inadvertently misreporting the mildly-complicated process, I pulled the quote from them in its entirety.

“Dan Buckley will continue as President of Marvel Entertainment, where Ike Perlmutter remains Chairman. Long a creative collaborator for Feige in publishing and television, Buckley will have a dual reporting structure going forward, Deadline hears. He will continue to oversee publishing creative/editorial and in that capacity he will now report to Feige. Buckley is also responsible for publishing operations, sales, creative services, games, licensing and events. There, he will report to Perlmutter. It is expected that Joe Quesada will remain a creative lead for of Marvel Entertainment, reporting to Buckley. It is expected that all the creative execs in publishing will report to Buckley.”

Feige will still continue to report fro Walt Disney CCO Alan Horn and co-chairman Alan Bergman.

Interestingly enough, this seems to put back in closer proximity with Ike Perlmutter, and considering how publicly those two clashed (leading to the restructure that saw Marvel Studios pulled from under Marvel Entertainment’s umbrella), I’m curious to see how this works out.

The overall goal here appears to be for a more cohesive universe that spans both TV and film, though this was not explicitly stated. What is interesting is that Marvel Television still has some shows running, and even Helstrom seems to be in active development for Hulu. We’ll see if that changes with Feige coming on board, and if it will affect shows like Runaways and Cloak and Dagger.

What do you think of this move? Is it smart for Marvel to expand the duties of Kevin Feige, or is he spreading himself too thin? Let us know down below!
