Mary Poppins Returns Releases Two Whimsical Songs Ahead Of Its Release

Have you let the daily rat race grind you down? Do you find it hard to find pleasure in the simple joys of life? That seems to be exactly what’s happening with the Banks kids in the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns. That’s right, Michael and Jane from that first film have grown all up and all but forgotten everything the magical Mary Poppins has taught them, prompting her return.

Of course, the original film was based on a novel by P.L. Travers, but it was very much its own beast, featuring musical numbers and animated sequences. Given that it was a classic in its own, different way, you know that this film would have to live up to those same pressures, and that includes memorable musical numbers. As if daring us to judge them, Disney has gone and released two full songs from the film. You can check out “The Place Where Lost Things Go” above and Trip a Little Light Fantastic below.

The first song features the dulcet tones of actress Emily Blunt in a solo, almost melancholy piece, and the second one is more of a fun, traditional classical piece, full of joy, excitement, and of course, a terrible accent, very much in the vein of Dick Van Dyke.

Below is the official synopsis for Mary Poppins Returns:

“In Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns, an all new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.”

Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters on December 19, 2018.
