Michael Douglas Was Confused At First By The Script For Ant-Man And The Wasp

I suppose we who live in this world of geekdom, us fanboys as it were, would find it hard to understand how someone not involved in this pop culture could be ignorant of the general story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet, we represent a tiny fraction of the population as a whole and there are going to be countless people who are not interested in the MCU.

It’s therefore understandable when Michael Douglas says that the script for Ant-Man and the Wasp in which he reprises his role as Hank Pym, initially confused him. The first Ant-Man ended of course on a happy note with Scott Lang allowing Hank to get his company back and also falling for Hank’s daughter Hope. So when Michael Douglas got the script for the sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, he was pretty confused as to why Scott was on house arrest and he and Hope were on the run with no contact from Scott. Douglas was interviewed by MTV International and here is what the veteran actor said.

“I never read a comic book in my life. I’m so grateful that they brought me into this family. I did a little bit of homework on the Ant-Man — I really screwed up because they didn’t tell me when we started Ant-Man and the Wasp that I should go see Captain America [Civil War]. Because if I saw Captain America then I would understand what Ant-Man, Paul Rudd, had done in there and why. So when I read the script for this, I had no idea what was going on. And then finally the director, Peyton Reed, said, ‘Well, he’s been in Captain America.’ I said, ‘I didn’t see Captain America.’ And he looked at me like I committed the greatest sin in the world. ‘Well, if you told me to go see Captain America, I would! I’d go see it,’ you know, and I would know. But you should make a note, ‘Go see Captain America before you read the script’.”

Michael Douglas is not a fan of comic books or probably comic book movies in general. He is however a paid actor who turns up, learns his lines and rarely delivers a bad performance. It’s his job and that’s it, so if you are ever in the lucky enough position to be directing a Marvel movie in the future and you manage to convince Al Pacino to play a part in it, remember to give him a list of the movies he needs to watch first. After that, E-Mail me and offer me a job if you don’t mind?
