Michael Keaton Confirmed To Return To Spider-Man: Homecoming Sequel

As reported earlier today via Variety, Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to take on the role of one of Spider-Man’s villains Mysterio for Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. At one point it had been rumored that he might have been on a short list to play Bruce Wayne. But it looks like this villainous role will be his first in a superhero film.

Speaking of Bruce Wayne, one actor who has experience playing the Dark Knight is Michael Keaton. In the first film Spider-Man: Homecoming, he played Adrian Toomes aka the Vulture. He has been praised as one of the more relatable villains that Marvel has put out. In the same article as the Gyllenhall announcement Variety also reported that Keaton will be returning as Toomes in the sequel. Also confirmed for the sequel is Marissa Tomei as Aunt May and Zendaya as Michelle.

Mysterio and the Vulture are 2 parts of the Sinister Six, so it will be interesting to see if they start putting together the iconic group of villains. Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have written the script for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel which is said to have two villains.

Although this is great news, currently Spider-Man is missing due to the actions of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. So we will have to wait and see how the untitled Avengers 4 will bring back Peter Parker. That film is set to hit theaters two months before the Spider-Man film.
