Microsoft Reveals Next Generation Xbox Release Window And Performance Details – Halo: Infinite To Be Launch Title

E3 is currently in full swing and whilst Sony had decided to not be present at this year’s Electronics Expo, Microsoft took the opportunity to be first to reveal some official details of the next generation of consoles.

Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer took to the stage to deliver many different pieces of news about all things Xbox, though mostly it was trailers for games that will be arriving on the console across the next year or two. However, towards the end of the presentation, Spencer did give some details on ‘Project Scarlett’ the code name for the next gen of Xbox console.

Scarlett is just the project name and we don’t know as yet what the console will officially be called, however, we do have an idea of performance. The next console will be released in Fall 2020 and it will be capable of delivering 8k resolution, 120 frames per second, and feature an internal SSD hard drive. This will make the new console around four times as powerful as the current Xbox One X, the current most powerful console on the market. No price details were revealed as yet, but there is a rumor that Microsoft will also produce a cheaper more simplified model as well, though no details of that were revealed either.

In terms of games, well we really don’t have an idea yet of just how the new games will utilize this extra power. However, Spencer did reveal that Halo: Infinite will be the launch title for the new Xbox console. You can catch the small teaser trailer for Halo: Infinite above.

Now we wait on Sony announcing their own details for PlayStation 5, and which company announces their pricing first. Both my son and I have Xbox One consoles, so it looks like Xmas 2020 is going to be an expensive one for me. Microsoft also revealed that Xbox Game Pass was now coming to PC also, and that for one price, you can subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Live Gold and get a PC subscription for free. All Microsoft First Party games along with many others are appearing on Game Pass from the day of release, this includes Gears of War 5 this September and Halo: Infinite when it launches in Fall 2020.
