Mission: Impossible Helmer Christopher McQuarrie Turned Down DC Projects

While many of us are still hyperventilating over the amazing Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, one of us here over at LRM HQ is still losing his mind over last night’s development regarding Mission: Impossible (I’ll give you a hint, that LRM writer’s name rhymes with Rick Call). In case you missed that announcement, Christopher McQuarrie, who’s already helmed two films in the franchise, has signed on for not one, but TWO more Mission: Impossible movies.

These films will be made back-to-back, and are eyeing release dates in the summer of 2021 and the summer of 2022. So if you didn’t have your fill yet of Ethan Hunt and his crew of impossiblers, then you’ve only got a couple years to wait. Plus, given how great of a practical filmmaker McQuarrie is and how much Cruise loves his stunts, it really has been a match made in heaven. But there’s another interesting little tidbit you may not have heard.

Buried in the initial report from THR, it was revealed that Warner Bros. had actually tried to seduce McQuarrie for one of their DC projects. Sadly, none of the DC projects were revealed, but I suppose it doesn’t matter, as McQuarrie sought to re-team with Cruise instead, which is probably all for the best.

Are you sad to hear about this, and do you think we’re losing something by McQuarrie not throwing his hat in the DC ring? Let us know your thoughts down below!
