Mortal Kombat Film Wraps Filming With Low-Key Liu Kang Reveal, Releases January 2021

It’s almost happening. Ish. After years and years of failed attempts and a webseries that garnered some fan attention, it looks like the Mortal Kombat franchise may actually be headed to the big screen again very soon. While you can never be sure a project makes its way to the big screen, once you get past the filming stage, the chances of it actually making it go up exponentially.

Now, thanks to a post from Mortal Kombat star Ludi Lin, we know the project has passed the filming stage. In the post is a video of a Polaroid of him as Liu Kang. The photo itself is stuck in some sea rocks, so you can only just make out the name. Inscribed onto a clump of salt-looking rocks are the words “Game Over.”

The other big reveal here is that the movie is set to hit theaters on January 15, 2021. While January hasn’t always been the most auspicious date — as, in the past, it has been a place for studios to dump their bad movies — recent years have seen the month filled with fairly solid movies on certain occasions, so it’s difficult to know.
