Natalie Portman On Why She Skipped Thor: Ragnarok And Why She’s Back For Love And Thunder

There seemed to be a period in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where things weren’t quite working out for them. Avengers: Age of Ultron was disappointing, Edgar Wright left Ant-Man, Patty Jenkins left Thor 2, Gwyneth Paltrow was pretty much gone, and Natalie Portman also seemed to be on her way out. All in all, Phase 2 seemed to be the one where relationships were tested at Marvel Studios.

And in the time since then, things have only gotten better. The Avengers films have since impressed, Ant-Man has become a key member of the Avengers, Gwyneth Paltrow has since played Pepper Potts a few more times, and Thor has been rebooted and is cooler than ever. It only made sense that they’d bring back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster.

Speaking with E.T., Portman herself spoke on the subject of Thor: Love and Thunder and why she came back to this role.

“They came to me with the idea and said, ‘We have this idea for you that was a storyline in some of the comics where Jane becomes Lady Thor,’ and I was like, ‘This is very exciting!’”

But what about her absence in Thor: Ragnarok?

“Obviously, I wasn’t written into [Thor: Ragnarok] because of where it took place. It wasn’t really on Earth, and my character is on Earth.”

Sadly, we won’t be getting the TMZ version of this response. We won’t here all the s**t that went on behind the scenes and whether or not there was actually bad blood between her and Marvel Studios.

And as far as her new costars go:

“I love Tessa [Thompson] and Chris [Hemsworth] so much, so it’s exciting to work with them again, and I’m very excited to wield the hammer.”
