Netflix Acquires Latest Project from The Predator Director

Many fans were introduced to the filmmaking maestro, Shane Black back when he was telling jokes to Sonny Landham over a chopper ride. Very iconic moments. “Hey, Billy. Billy! The other day, I went up to my girlfriend, I said, ‘Y’know I’d like a little p***y.’ She said, ‘Me too, mine’s as big as a house!'” That is how I met Mr. Black. Watching Dutch and his squad propeller over the dense jungle as Little Richard shouted, “Ooh baby, havin’ me some fun tonight, yeah.”  That was 1987, my friends.

Shane Black has gone on to direct for Marvel, and hopefully reinvent the murderous monster from the depths of space that removes spines like dental floss in your teeth. We’ll have to wait until September 14 to know for certain if the new Predator is truly an upgrade or if it’s just been repackaged and sold to fans as more of the same. Here’s looking at you AVP and AVP: Requiem.

Until then fans of Black and Netflix have something to look forward to. The streaming juggernaut has acquired the rights to Black’s Cold Warrior, making the project officially in development for Netflix. With a script by Chuck Mondry that traces a retired Cold War-era spy who teams with a younger agent to track down a terrorist. Sounds ripe for some interesting adventure full of Black’s trademark banter. Here’s hoping it’s as fun as Black’s 2005 film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, 1987’s Lethal Weapon, or 1996’s The Long Kiss Goodnight.
