Netflix Testing Weekly Episode Drops With Several Series

Are you ready to watch Stranger Things one week at a time? Well, we may not be that far along yet, but Netflix is testing weekly episode releases for several of its series. So, while it may not mean you’ll have to wait a full week to catch the next episode of Eleven squaring off against a Demogorgon, you will be watching The Great British Baking Show at the traditional network pace of one episode at a time.

The Great British Cooking Show is a reality competition series. So maybe Netflix is trying to make sure fans are all on the same page of suspense as they await the results of the weeks’ competition. Netflix is also using this traditional formula for the reality series Rhythm & Flow. The competitive hip-hop reality series features Cardi B, Chance the Rapper, and T.I. as judges. It’s worth mentioning that Rhythm & Flow will release four episodes, all consisting of the series audition phase.

Though this is not Netflix’s first time employing the weekly episodic release schedule, it is scary to imagine Mindhunter or Stranger Things being available at the trickle out of one episode per week. What do you think? Are there series that you think would benefit from a more traditional release schedule? Are you ready to go back to watching shows like its 1999? All kidding aside, it’s odd that Netflix would start dialing the immediacy on their shows back when their bread and butter has been providing the binge-watching experience.
