Netflix’s Chronicles Of Narnia Gets Coco Co-Writer As Creative Head

It’s the early 2000s again. Amazon Prime is bringing back the world of Middle-Earth in the Lord of the Rings series and Netflix is bringing back C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia to their streaming service. Once again, these two mammoth fantasy properties will be back in the mainstream pop culturesphere — except this time in your homes as opposed to in the theaters. Of course, with a property this big, you need a solid lead to help bring it to life.

THR is reporting that Matthew Aldrich, one of the co-writers of Pixar’s 2017 fantasy hit, Coco, will be overseeing this adaptation, which will be appearing on the streaming service in both movie and series form. The specifics aren’t clear, but it sounds like it will be a mostly-movie franchise set across the Narnia world and timeline, and at least one series.

But which novels will be the ones getting adapted? Which ones are a better fit for film, and which will be better adapted for TV? That is the eternal question I’m sure they’re asking themselves over at Netflix. The idea of creating a property that spans both TV and film is one producers have been trying to do for ages, but haven’t really succeeded in doing just yet (if you’ve been following the development of The Dark Tower over the years, you know what I mean), but as the two mediums collide in streaming, they’re bound to get it right eventually.
