New Black Mirror Episode Or Season Hitting Later This Month?

There is something quite timeless about the Twilight Zone-esque stories. With the clever mix of weird tech, new perspectives, and social commentary, these kinds of stories really do age incredibly well. It’s no wonder why shows like Black Mirror have done so well in today’s age, especially when you can immediately (ironically enough) retreat to an online world to discuss the twists and turns divvied out every single episode.

Last year, Netflix dropped its latest season about a year ago, meaning that we should be getting its fifth season relatively soon, right? Well, it’s incredibly possible. One of Netflix’s official Twitter accounts recently posted an image of upcoming releases, and set for 12/28 was none other than Black Mirror: Bandersnatch…does this mean we can expect the new season right after Christmas?

That is the $10,000 question. Netflix quickly took down the image, seemingly lending it some credibility…but what’s with the subtitle? Black Mirror doesn’t have a history of having subtitles, so this could mean one of two things. One, it could mean we’ll be getting our first season with an overarching theme. Two, it could mean we’re only getting one episode on that day, and it will be called “Bandersnatch.”

But what is Bandersnatch? The word, as it turns out, comes from Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass novel (it even made an appearance in the recent Disney adaptation), but based on tweets last April, which revealed a Christmas, UK, and 80s-set world, it seems more likely that it’ll follow the production of the ill-fated video game of the same name. Of course, that’s just speculation, as the real game was in production back in 1984, but it certainly is an interesting one. Also, could the idea of a video game-themed episode give way to the previously-reported Choose Your Own Adventure idea for the series? Hm…
