New Mutants Star Maisie Williams Clearly Annoyed By Film’s Delay

For the past year-plus, there are a couple movies over at 20th Century Fox that seemed to be getting raked over the coals. More specifically, there are two mutant-focused movies that have been having some trouble making it to the silver screen. I’m, of course, talking about Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, but the latter one is the one I find more interesting, simply because it’s so much different from your typical superhero movie.

Rather than rest nearly completely on the established tone of a previous franchise, The New Mutants was a horror-centric take on the comic book characters that hailed from Josh Boone, Stephen King fanatic and director of such movies as Stuck in Love (very much NOT a horror movie). The movie had its first trailer drop 156 months ago (roughly), and since then, it’s been delayed twice, with its latest release date set for August 2, 2019…but many are doubtful it’ll make it to theaters at all.

“Who knows when the f**k that’s gonna come out,” one of the film’s stars, Maisie Williams, told Rolling Stone. She went on to tell the outlet that it had been sent into reshoots so they could “make it scarier,” which checks out with previous rumors, but things have been silent since then.

Williams even shared that she saw Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things), one of her co-stars in the movie, and she asked him “What the f**k is going on with this movie? Hopefully, this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit!”

In case you’re wondering, Heaton had no information to give Williams on that front. But one interesting note is that both her and Game of Thrones co-star Sophie Turner, who plays Jean Grey in the upcoming Dark Phoenix movie, are holding out hope that their characters could eventually meet up in the movies.

“It would be ridiculously stupid if they didn’t do that,” she said to the outlet.

Sadly, with the acquisition of Fox by Disney and the apparently troubled productions of these two movies…it doesn’t seem likely…
