Another comic book adaptation is ready to hit television screens. Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba’s award winning comic book from Dark Horse titled The Umbrella Academy will be premiering on Netflix on February 15th, 2019. The series recently returned in October to Dark Horse with Umbrella Academy Hotel Oblivion, it’s third issue being released last week. This weekend Netflix dropped the trailer for the series. The first season of The Umbrella Academy will tell follow the story of six children, five of which have super powers, and their adoptive father. One difference from the comic book series will be the timeline. The story will begin in 1989 to present day, instead of beginning in 1977. But other than that the base of the series remains the same. Here is the synopsis for the series from Netflix.

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world.

Now, the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and must work together to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

The Umbrella Academy stars Ellen Page as Vanya, Tom Hopper as Luther, David Castaneda as Diego, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aidan Gallagher as Number Five and Colm Feore as Sir Reginald Hargreeves. Way and Ba are serving as executive producers in the 10 hour long episodes that make up the first season.
