Nintendo Patents Phone Case That Turns Your Phone Into A Gameboy

Damn, what a great time it is to be a gamer. Now, more than ever, we have the ability to experience almost every video game that’s ever been made, be it through emulation, ports, or remakes. So the beauties of nostalgia are rarely more than a few bucks away from being realized. But, of course, Nintendo is never one to stop figuring out ways for you to revisit your childhood experiences.

According to a patent uncovered by Siliconera (via Variety), the Big N may indeed be working on an ambitious phone case. Yeah, I know. I say “phone case” and most excitement kinds of flies out the window, right? But this case may very well give gamers the ability to turn their phone into a Gameboy. The report comes from a patent published in late September, and it covers the front of the screen, allowing the overlaying buttons to function as legit buttons and the top of the screen opening to function as the Gameboy screen. You can take a look at it for yourself above.

But when could we possibly experience this wonderful screen? Variety speculates this holiday season, but we’ll see if that’s the case. This strategy falls in line with the game developer’s strategy of embracing the mobile market, but doing so in a way that virtually no one could have predicted. It would also give them a whole other way for them to charge users to experience their old-school games for the umpteenth time, and if that’s not a Nintendo move, I don’t know what is.

Will you be picking up this case if it comes out? Let us know down below!
