Noah Centineo In Talks To Play He-Man In Masters Of The Universe Film By Sony Pictures

In the 1980’s Mattel launched their highly successful He-Man and the Masters of the Universe toy line, which included an expanding cast of colorful characters with strange gimmicks like Man-E-Faces, who can transform his head from human to robot to monster, or Mekaneck, whose neck could extend. From the toy line came the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series produced by Filmation from 1983-1985. That series spawned several other animated films and television specials.

We had already reported that Sony Pictures and Mattel Films was developing a film based on this franchise. The script had been rewritten by Matt Holiday and Art Marcum, which had previously been written by David S. Goyer. Today via TheWrap we have learned that Noah Centineo is in talks to play the lead role of He-Man for the film. He has been recently seen on Netflix’s To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and Sierra Burgess Is A Loser and is currently in production on To All The Boys 2. He will also be featured later this year in Charlies Angels.

The He-Man story follows Prince Adam, who is the heir to the throne of planet Eternia. He uses the magical Power Sword to transform into the heroic He-Man warrior. As He-Man he defends the kingdom from Skeletor an evil wizard that is looking to take over Castle Grayskull whihc is the source of He-Man’s powers. He-Man is allies include Teela, Man-at-Arms, Orko and The Sorceress.

Masters of the Universe is being directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, who also have credit in the rewrite. It is being produced by Escape Artists principles Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch. Mattel executives Julia Pistor and David Voss will serve as executive producers.

This is not the first time that Masters of the Universe has been adapted as a live action film. Back in 1987 it had a feature film that was directed by Gary Goddard starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. Also a fun fact this was one of Courtney Cox’s first movie roles.
