Octopath Traveler Developers Post Update Video On Anticipated Switch Game

Square Enix has always been the undisputed king of JRPGs. Even when the company existed as two different entities (Squaresoft and Enix), they were separately considered the two big players in the genre. Recently, the company brought gorgeous Bravely Default and Bravely Second to the Nintendo 3DS, and late last year, they announced their next big Nintendo project, Octopath Traveler, which will be exclusively on the Switch.

The game looks to be a love letter to classic JRPGs, but it also looks to be distinctly unique, allowing you to choose from eight different characters to follow.

The developer has had the demo out on the Nintendo eShop store for some time now, and it looks like they’ve been taking the feedback on the demo very seriously. In a newly-released video update from Nintendo, they delve into some of the key changes they’ve made in response to this feedback.

Among the changes is the ability to easier run without having to hold down the B button, and the improvement of visibility so that traveling is easier. Admittedly, these are very small changes, but it does make me a bit optimistic about when we can see the finished product. When they’re in the process of polishing things at such a granular level, it really goes to show how far along they are.

Check out the video above, because, in addition to the changes made, there’s a lot more gameplay footage.
