Pacific Rim Uprising: Check Out The Tokyo Comic-Con Reel!

Legendary has released a new featurette for the upcoming blockbuster, Pacific Rim Uprising. Check it out above!

In the actual video, we get to see many creatives and their love for the giant monster genre of film. From the likes of Godzilla to Ultraman, Pacific Rim was a film that paid definite homages to the genre that Japan really spearheaded.

Most notably in the video, director Steven S. DeKnight really seems to have a deep love for the material they are paying homage to. With previous director Guillermo del Toro working on his own stuff, DeKnight is perhaps a much better fit for the material.

In this behind-the-scenes look, we also get our first real look at the character of Amara, played by Cailee Spaeny. She looks to be the scrappy sort of sidekick character, and she even has the skills to have built a Jaeger all on her own, which is pretty cool.

Admittedly, I’m not the biggest fan of Pacific Rim. In addition to the monster movies it pays respects to, it also looks to pay respect to the anime medium. Sadly, from the perspective of an anime fan, it only really seemed to take advantage of those most shallow aspects of the medium, and it ultimately wound up being an unenjoyable watch for someone like me.

That being said, with the new director at the helm, and the new trailer looking all sorts of fun, I think I may be coming around to this sequel.
