Peter Jackson Is Happy To Watch Amazon’s Lord Of The Rings Series As A Fan

Amazon is prepared to throw down a buttload on money on their upcoming Lord of the Rings series. The man who brought us three wonderful films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved novels, Peter Jackson, spoke with Comicbook.com at New York Comic-Con and says he is excited for the series because he will be able to enjoy it as a fan.

“I’m kind of looking forward to it. I was a guy who didn’t get to see the Lord of the Rings like everybody else because I had to make it, so I’m looking forward to seeing somebody else’s take on the Tolkien world.”

That’s right. We’ve said this before in previous reports, but if you were still hoping to see Jackson be a part of this new series, you should probably give up that hope now.

While it’s sort of a bummer Jackson won’t have a hand in the new series, it’s also exciting as we will have a fresh take on Middle-earth. Amazon’s new series is set to be a prequel. While television has been around for decades it seems that now it is being realized as the superior storytelling platform. Amazon is betting a whole lot of money on the popularity of the Lord of the Rings franchise, with reportedly five seasons of the prequel show planned.
