Ralph Breaks The Internet – The Character Director Rich Moore Wanted To Include In The Film

Disney owns a lot of properties, and one of the many advantages of that is being able to have popular characters cameo in other films. With Wreck-It Ralph’s latest adventure taking him and his pal Vanellope to the Internet, the film is sure to showcase some of the most iconic characters in popular culture.

Most of us have seen the trailers for Ralph Breaks The Internet where upon first arriving at the Disney sector of the Internet, we see Iron Man fly overhead as well as an X-Wing in pursuit of a TIE fighter. With Disney’s already vast library of characters, as well as their influence in the world of media, it is surprising to learn that there was one character the filmmakers wanted to use, but weren’t able to obtain, Herbie the Love Bug. The film’s director, Rich Moore recently spoke with comicbook.com and explains his dismay over not being able to include the sentient Volkswagen.

“I wanted so bad to have Herbie the Love Bug to be in the scene, and we built a Volkswagen and it turns out that Disney doesn’t own that character, it’s owned by someone else. So that was heartbreaking. I loved those movies.”

I find it odd that Disney wasn’t able to negotiate even a small cameo for Herbie, however, it’s not a stretch to say that most children watching the film would even know who Herbie was, as it’s been a while since any new content from the franchise has been produced. Having said that the addition of Herbie would have been a nice throwback to the childhoods of the parents watching the film.
