Rare Empire Strikes Back Poster Sets Record At Auction

A rare concept poster from The Empire Strikes Back has sold at an event put on by Heritage Auctions for $26,400. The bid set a world record for Star Wars movie posters sold at auction. You can check out the poster below.

The poster is in part a homage to a poster from the re-release of Gone with the Wind, Han and Leia’s positions mimic those of Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh from the classic film. The poster was drawn by artist Roger Kastel.

Director of Vintage Posters at Heritage Auctions, Grey Smith:

“This poster is considered to be one of the more rare posters in the entire Star Wars trilogy. This poster is unique as it features the complete Kastel artwork in the original color palette for the second in George Lucas’ trilogy.”

Though Star Wars toy sales are noticeably down (I’m not blaming Disney, are you blaming Disney?), the auction proves that the right Star Wars item can still bring in a nice payday. Of course, items from the original trilogy are going to be where the money is, as they are simply more sought after by collectors because of their rarity.

One of the more valuable Star Wars items in existence is an extremely rare Boba Fett Action Figure that actually shoots a rocket. Kenner stopped production on the figure due to concern the projectile could be a choking hazard for younger children. One of these figures, perhaps the only one, showed up on an episode of Pawn Stars and was valued at at least $125,000. You can check it out below.
